'Vaudeville Returns!'

'Vaudeville Returns!'

Acoustic Voice launches its 2014 season at The Regal Ballroom on March 5, 2014.

There will be a morning concert on the first Wednesday of each month for the duration of 2014.

‘Vaudeville Returns!’ will be a show of dancing, singing and performing as our cast take to the stage in the same vein as those who performed there early last century.

As well as being a special place, the venue has a special place in history as one of the first theatres in the area for vaudeville and film when it opened in 1912. The theatre pioneered a number of new technologies when it opened, not the least of which was electricity!

Another name for a vaudeville entertainment that is more familiar is “variety”. Simply, it is a concert with a number of unrelated items (or acts) that may span the breadth of opera, operetta, music theatre, jazz, patter songs, short scenes, and physical comedy. One might say that Graham Kennedy’sIn Melbourne Tonight was a (vaudeville) variety show on television.

The concert on the first Wednesday in March celebrates this long, deep tradition. The performers are staying true to the essence of such an event by not using any microphones!

The goal of Acoustic Voice is that each audience member experiences the performance directly with nothing in between them and the performer! The stage is set for a great morning where the variety on offer means everyone should find something which appeals to them. Come and be part of this “Return” celebration!

Tickets available through www.oztix.com.au or at the door on the morning of the event. $16+ bf and this includes morning tea.

Here’s what audiences are saying,

“The incredibly moving sound of Acoustic Voice, emanating from the venue, pulled me in right off the street, literally!”

“One of the things that was overwhelming at the concert was the feeling that the voices and the piano rang out in the lovely space of the old town hall, as if a full orchestra was playing and that the voices were all around you.”

‘Wonderfully Engaging!’
