City of Melbourne Presents ORGAN & ... PERCUSSION & SOPRANO

City of Melbourne Presents ORGAN & ... PERCUSSION & SOPRANO

Award-winning contemporary music ensemble Synergy Percussion will add the beats of drums, marimbas, xylophones, timpani and junk percussion to the breathtaking majesty of the Grand Organ's 9592 to re-create Ennio Morricone’s The Mission and the thunderous cavalry charge inspired by John Williams War Horse soundtrack.

This family friendly concert also features much loved soundtracks from blockbuster films including Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

Soprano Cath Lukin brings yet another dimension to the event performing Benjamin Britten’s magnificent and startling Our Hunting Fathers, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the British composer’s birth.

Audiences will also experience Melbourne genre-blending composer Taran Carter’s new composition Mixed Precipitation. Scroll down for full repertoire details.

At quite some distance from the event now, my memory is of an interesting, possibly courageous, program. I particularly liked the contribution of Synergy, and the new composition.

What a mesmerising performance!

The percussion group were fantastic, and the organ sounded great. There was a bit of programming issue, with a long and difficult to listen to piece at the beginning of the second half, but apart from that, a great evening's music.

Who would have thought an organ could produce such powerful sounds. I recommend this to first timers and return patrons. We really enjoyed the performance.

Great performance - inspiring percussion!!

Sorry didn't quite enjoy the entire show. The percussionists were good but thought the organist let it down. However, I must thank On the House for allowing us the chance to share the experience.

Great night of fabulous percussionists (including one of Australia's best), a great combo with the MTH organ and soprano with recognisable tunes. Thanks for a great night out.

We really enjoyed the showcase of the Grand Organ in Melbourne Town Hall mixed with the amazing energy and talent from Synergy Percussion! The opportunity to check out the organ controls and chat with the friendly musicians was a real treat. A great mix of favorities and traditionals!

Entertaining

It was a unique musical experience. I had never previously heard the combination of grand organ, percussion and a soprano. The music created was unusual and quite distinct. It was an enjoyable performance.

This was a fabulous event! From a beautiful, atmospheric venue we were treated to the thunderous lingering sounds of the magnificent Organ. We were spirited away to the Amazon jungle, the fighting fields of France, and deep space through the incredible use of percussion. An experience not to be missed!

the Town hall is a wonderful venue , the percussion and organ melded well, and it was great to hear songs I could recognise..
Organ music and opera/soprano and percussion all together are not my sort of thing......(.I have now decided ...).......and I thank OnTheHouse for allowing me to experience an event I would otherwise not have considered trying out due to cost
