Yarn

Yarn

This is the first time the Australian Tapestry Workshop will host a public theatre performance presented among the hand woven tapestries in progress on the looms. It follows Lily's residency in 2012, where she was the first theatre maker to be awarded an artistic residency at the Workshop. "It was fascinating having Lily, as a performance artist among us, absorbing the rhythm and movement of the weavers at their looms, and observing the collaborative nature of the creation of tapestries and the sheer exuberance of the palette and materials." said Antonia Syme, Australian Tapestry Workshop Director.

In Yarn, the collapse of a young woman's relationship parallels the desires and actions of mythical-historical characters Lilith, Eve and Salome. Yarn unearths the objectified woman's capacity for rage. "Since the beginning of time women have been told they're second rate. My characters abominate that statement," said Lily.

Yarn is a new work created by Lily Fish and directed by Andrew Gray, Co-Artistic Director Playback Theatre, Green Room Award nominated All My Sleep and Waking (Male Actor) and The Colour of Glass (Direction). Lily Fish is an emerging theatre artist, writer and performer. She is a graduate of the National Theatre Drama School and has trained with Teatro Punto (Holland), Dairakudakan (Japan) and Zen Zen Zo (Brisbane). She is a member of The DIG Collective and intern with Born in a Taxi. Recent performance credits include Unconditioned Heart at La Mama for Backyard Theatre, Amoer for Eight Wing, and playing Puck in Winterfall Theatre's A Midsummer Nights Dream.
