Sally in Recital - Melbourne

Sally in Recital - Melbourne

Queen's College proudly announces its Winter/Spring Concert Series featuring local and national artists appearing in the College's historic Junior Common Room. The series includes exquisite chamber music from the renowned Seraphim Trio plus emerging artists from Queen's College including the debut of the new Queen's College Chorus. But first, the series kicks off with ARIA Award-winning pianist and composer, Sally Whitwell.

Queen's College's very special guest from Sydney, Sally Whitwell will perform favourites from her two albums: the ARIA Award winning Mad Rush: Solo Piano Music of Philip Glass and her ARIA nominated sophomore album The Good, the Bad and the Awkward. Ms Whitwell said: "This is as friendly and immediate as classical piano recitals get!"

Having made a new year's resolution at the beginning of 2013 to always include an Australian work in her informal recital programs, the bill also includes music from fine young composer Joseph Twist.

Dr Kathleen McGuire, the new Director of Music at Queen's College, learned from Ms Whitwell that the intimate afternoon's entertainment will be punctuated with informal chats. "It promises to be a rare opportunity to really get to know this remarkable artist and her creative choices," said McGuire. "Sally is one of our country's rare gifts. This concert is not to be missed."

Following the recital, audience members are invited to stay for a reception with Ms Whitwell.

While she was very talented, some of the commentary was not very well thought through.
