Dear Beloved,
Allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. Please meet me for a drink at New Theatre...
What do you do when your ideal man is Mr Darcy and the only man at the pub seems to be Mr Wickham? ...or even worse, Mr Collins? In a world of RSVP, Facebook and drunken sex in disabled toilets, is it possible to meet a man on a white horse in well- tailored regency attire?
Writer/performer Mel Dodge has always been a great fan of Jane Austen. She has spent many a night with the girls watching the BBC ‘Pride and Prejudice’ eating a tub of chocolate ice cream. Inspired by true stories of the epic search for love, Jane Austen is Dead is a little bit naughty... and lots of fun. A treat for the contemporary heroine (with enough laughs to entertain the modern day hero).
BRAVE Theatre, as part of Sydney Fringe 2013, presents Jane Austen is Dead. Direct from a sell-out season in Wellington, Jane Austen is Dead will play a five night season at New Theatre. Originally created in New Zealand in 2008, it has since played in Adelaide, Melbourne, remote WA and Wellington. This is romantic- optimist Mel’s sixth play for her company BRAVE and she is excited about collaborating with long-time friend and romantic- philanderer director, Patrick Davies. Lighting design and additional direction by newly-married Sherilee Kahui. Other BRAVE plays have toured to Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Edinburgh.
‘Dodge gives a brilliant performance. An entertaining satire that has the wit, poise, and sentiment of an Austen novel.’ 4 stars. Fringe Review UK
