With Madame Butterfly, choreographers Martin & Michelle Sierra have assembled a diverse cast of performing artists that embrace a choreography rich with virtue, sensibility, grace, intrigue and challenge and spoken in a language of skilled aerial partnering, expressionism and a fusion of contemporary dance disciplines.
Melbourne Dance Theatre’s performance of Madame Butterfly was an innovative new work produced especially for the Adelaide Fringe Festival. We are proud to have the opportunity to bring this work to the Sydney Fringe Festival, September 2013.
Madame Butterfly explores the depths of the human heart where love & passion are birthed and bred, ultimately climaxing into promises of complete and total surrender of the heart, mind & soul of one person to the other in a moment in time, and then the downhill plunging into full scale betrayal where Butterfly ultimately executes her final metamorphosis.
Madame Butterfly takes her audiences on a roller-coaster journey of human emotions, soaring to the highest pinnacle and then plunging to a fatal end. One of the world's best-loved opera, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly transcends its frontiers into a display of contemporary dance and neo expressionist dance. This powerful work, unforgettably danced, features the unique style of the Melbourne Dance Theatre and Martin Sierra’s mesmerizing choreography. Fusing the grandeur of opera with the artistry of contemporary dance, Madame Butterfly is playful and imaginative, intimate and deeply affecting.
Madame Butterfly is a wilfully magical reflection on the indelible ties of duty and culture, and the ultimate tale of East meets West. This work promises a profound experience that is deeply moving, impacting and visually inspiring.
This fresh vibrant choreography is an innovative new work spoken in a language of neo-expressionism and a fusion of diverse contemporary dance disciplines. Influenced by the German Expressionist Dance background - ‘Ausdrucktanz’ mixed with intricate partnering, fluid classical ballet and contemporary dance fusion, the Melbourne Dance Theatre produces a unique contemporary trade brand self named as the ’21st Century Dance of Expression’.
