Be sure not to miss this brilliant and innovative brass ensemble from the Rhondda Valley of South Wales during their 11 venue concert tour.

We are making some interesting choices in terms of repertoire! Speaking about the selection, Musical Director Philip Harper commented: "There are three strands which make up the repertoire for the tour: firstly the band's proud Welsh Heritage which will be portrayed not only through traditional and well-known Welsh melodies, but also original music including two newly-commissioned pieces - an exciting Fanfare for Cory by the band's long-term creative collaborator Gareth Wood, and a piece depicting a small ex-mining village in the Rhondda Valley, not dissimilar to that of Cory Band's home, composed by Alan Fernie.

"The second strand will celebrate the fact that the brass band movement is this year celebrating 100 years since the composition of its first ever original piece - Percy Fletcher's Labour and Love from 1913. Therefore, Cory Band will feature some of the early classics from the repertoire in its tour programme, including Fletcher's An Epic Symphony, Herbert Howells's Pageantry and Eric Ball's Resurgam.

"Finally, the band will feature music typical of the sort which won it the Brass in Concert title in 2012, full of excitement, razzmatazz and brilliant showmanship from its star soloists, which you would expect from a band which holds the top brass band entertainment title in the world!"

An exciting new Australian-themed piece has also been commissioned for Cory from composer Dan Price. Called Dreamtime, the piece is inspired by Aboriginal mythology, and features the sound of the didgeridoo, as well as a narrator to guide audiences through the music. Dan Price commented: "The Dreamtime stories vary throughout Australia, but all carry the same themes. They tell of the creation, how the trees, rivers, hills and oceans all came to be. I hope Australian audiences will enjoy my take on one of their sacred legends."

Philip Harper concluded: "This all adds to the incredible excitement we are feeling about our trip 'Down Under' later this year. It's bound to be a memorable experience for all concerned especially, we hope, for our audiences."

Excellent performance. My 7 year old son attended and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I attended this in Sydney on Friday, 16 August 2013. I cannot say how much I enjoyed their performance. It was an incredible night and would definitely attend again if the opportunity arose. It was made even more special by a great conductor, who had a lot of warmth, charisma and clearly loved what he was doing and made every effort to share his passion and history for each piece with us the audience, it is so easy to appreciate why the Cory Band have such a superior reputation. This was my first exposure to a live brass band, I went because of my kid's interest in playing the trumpet, I will certainly be on the lookout for future wonderful experiences and going forward I am now keen to follow the Cory Band. So much so that I will be checking out their web page regularly and hope at some future date when I am in The UK, I will again have the opportunity to hear them in concert. Thank you to all involved for giving me this opportunity.
