Phantom of the Opera
On a balmy December evening in the historical gardens of Benedict House,
Anne Somes, producer of Free Rain Theatre Company Canberra announced the stars of the 2013 Canberra Premiere production of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
JULIE LEA GOODWIN will play Christine and MICHAEL CORMICK will play The Phantom Directed by DAVID HARMON
Julie Lea was originally plucked from the School Spectacular for the part of Christine when she was just 19, and toured for two years and 200 performances in the role .
She has recently been seen as Grace in the musical Annie, and played Maria in West Side Story.
Michael played the part of the romantic lead Raoul in London for 3 years and also toured with the Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber singing the Phantom’s songs. Michael took over the lead of Daddy Warbucks for the tour to Perth and has recently finished film and television projects.
David, was awarded an Artistic Residency by the Australia Council with Opera Australia. He has subsequently worked with Jim Sharman for Opera Australia’s production of Cosi Fan Tutte and Neil Armfield on Peter Grimes. In 2010, David was Resident Director on A Little Night Music directed by Stuart Maunder also for Opera Australia. David also works as a film & television maker and has produced documentaries which have shown on SBS.
He has worked with atyp Studio, David Berthold, NIDA, Griffin Theatre and the Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festival. He also directed international comedy group The Axis of Awesome in their Sydney Opera House debut Songs in the Key of Awesome.
