The Dragon

The Dragon

A witty, music-filled fairytale of heroes and villains.

A dragon has held sway over a cowering village for centuries, when a brave Lancelot arrives to vanquish the beast. The problem? The townsfolk have become quite fond of the tyrant and the impositions he makes … including the annual human sacrifice!

But don’t be fooled, there is more to this fairytale than meets the eye. Beneath the merriment lies a keen-witted exploration of political corruption and the perils of complacency. With Melbourne’s comic maestros Tripod bringing their iconic musical spoofery to the stage while playing the beast in question, and stellar performances from Jimi Bani (Mabo) and Kim Gyngell (Full Frontal), you won’t want to miss the laugh-until-you-ache hilarity of The Dragon.

I'm very sorry . I read the date incorrectly and turned up a day late for this performance !! Much to my disappointment . I've rated it a 4 as that seems a popular consensus .

Funny as! Tripod carry the cast, along with the rest of the show! a great night!

Great show, entertaining and funny. Not what I would normally expect to see from Tripod but still exceptionally cleaver.

Lot of work went into this show and mostly it paid off, suffers from the occasional overacting but found it a worthwhile performance, and Tripod are something of a National Treasure now.

Entertaining, yet a little too preachy - did I get the wrong impression? A great cast provided a believable performance! The venue was amazing. Will definitely return to this theatre!

Tripod were great as musicians and actors and they really connect with the audience. The play itself was in need of serious editing and rescripting. The light-hearted musical comedy of tripod did not meld well in to the haphazard story line of the play. The serious messages and metaphors of the play were too drawn out to be really engaging.

This was a fascinating fairytale, full of humour and great harmonies! Lots of good values and messages were conveyed by an extremely talented cast. A great show!

Unique, quirky, thought-provoking.
Clever sets and stage work, excellent music.
Not for kids (lots of swearing!) and the theme is quite dark and heavy towards the end.

I was enthralled - what brillant performers

A great show but don't go thinking this is the usual Tripod lighthearted song and banter. The show has some pretty serious undertones, monologues, and is a little off the cuff at times. Still very enjoyable but best to brace yourself before you go for something a little darker. Their 'onesies' are adorable though!
