Bhairavi Raman & Saroj Rana | Boite World Music Cafe

Bhairavi Raman & Saroj Rana | Boite World Music Cafe

As nights grow colder and longer, young musicians in Melbourne are preparing for the longest night of the year, Saturday 22nd June, when Mark St Hall of North Fitzroy fame, cosy home to the Boite World Music Café for 22 years, will be illuminated by music. This Winter Soltice, The Boite launches Sounds and Spaces, a special season of concerts in Yarra in Winter, featuring young artists, diverse genres, original work, music in both the streets and some of Yarra’s oldest haunts.

For the launch concert, young Melbourne violinist, Bhairavi Raman, accompanied by Nanthesh Sivarajah on mridangam (South Indian classical double-headed drum), explores the traditional roots of South Indian Classicism. These two young musicians will present an evening of interactive Carnatic Music, steeped in tradition and enriched with improvisation.

With a truly beautiful voice, Saroj Rana brings traditional songs from Nepal, accompanied by Pujan, guitar. In its entire history, only one Nepalese song has been sung at the Boite World Music Café at Mark St Hall. This concert provides a rare opportunity to enjoy delightful Nepalese melodies as they transform Winter in Yarra.
