The Blue Tiger - Modrý tygr (2011, Czech Republic, Germany & Slovakia, 90 minutes, 35mm)

A magical children’s film combining live-action and innovative animation in relating how the arrival of a blue tiger – a child's wish – might emerge from a doodle-filled scrapbook to save a run-down botanical garden and its neighbourhood in present day Prague from wholesale redevelopment at the hands of a villainous mayor.

But is the tiger even real? Why ever do dogs keep disappearing? And tiger or no tiger, don't young Johanka and Matyáš, who live on the garden grounds with their quirky parents (Barbora Hrzánová and Jan Hartl), already have enough to contend with just in their everyday school-going lives, let alone in trying to take the fight to rich, powerful developers and warding off bounty hunters?

The Blue Tiger is a wonderful, imaginative, award-winning children's film that adults will surely get a kick out of too. The CaSFFA team deem it most suitable for ages 8 and up.
