JOHN WOOD RETURNS TO ICONIC AUSSIE RULES DRAMA | THE CLUB

JOHN WOOD RETURNS TO ICONIC AUSSIE RULES DRAMA | THE CLUB

David Williamson’s The Club follows the seismic shift from Australian sport to Australian business. Can the proudest club in the history of Aussie Rules football survive the back room dramas and boardroom brawls that are more ferocious than any on-field dust-up? Football has never been played like this…

Following HIT Productions’ phenomenally successful tour of this seminal work in 2007/2008, the nation’s favourite actor, Gold Logie Award winner John Wood, returns to the role of Jock for a brand new national tour. Written by Australia’s top playwright David Williamson, The Club is a tale of greed and corruption in the world of sport. Denis Moore, who performed in the 2007/2008 tour, returns to the play as director.

Speaking about his forthcoming engagement, John Wood says: “The Club is one of the funniest Australian plays ever written. In my opinion it’s got the best first-act ending line of any play, Australian or otherwise. It makes absolutely certain the audience will be back to see act two! Denis Moore and I performed together in the last tour. More importantly for me, Denis directed A Stretch of the Imagination (a 2009 HIT tour). I love working with Denis as a director and I’m really looking forward to working with him on this. It’ll be great fun.”

Thoroughly enjoyed The Club, a true Aussie Icon. John Woods was brilliant. The other 5 actors were well portrayed.....good to have a good laugh. Even though I am not a footy fan I certainly found the play so true to the types who devote so much to their love of Footy. The set was so typical of a sporting boardroom.Congrats to all involved

A fabulous cast of characters portraying the beginning of a changing era in football. John Woods plays Jock's character to a T! A great nostalgic trip!
