THE LARAMIE PROJECT

THE LARAMIE PROJECT

Mockingbird Theatre is proud and excited to bring Melbourne audiences the return of the acclaimed Green Room award-winning staging of The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and Members of The Tectonic Theatre Project.
Premiering to a sold-out season at Chapel Off Chapel, director Chris Baldock and a cast of some of Melbourne’s best actors portraying over 90 characters, bring this must-see event back by popular demand.

In 1998, a 21 year old gay student was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. His name was Matthew Shepard. A New York Theatre company travelled to Laramie to chronicle the life of the town in the year after the murder. The result is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the compassionate heights to which we can climb. A powerful stage event that will touch and change those who witness this theatrical masterpiece.

Very intriguing but long. Just long enough to stay tuned but perhaps too long for an evening theatre.

Fantastic!

A very moving performance. This performance was kaleidoscope consisting of each artist, morphing from one character to another, slowly bringing together a complete, clear picture of events to this important story - that must be told. The play used chairs as their only (and very essential) props that represented everything from the church to a fence. Any more props would be a distraction. Well done to the crew and director on this masterpiece!

Extraordinary performance. The script is phenomenal; and the acting just amazing. A real must see. Went through the full range of emotions and needed a long strong coffee afterwards to debrief. A brilliant piece of theatre.
