Farewell Lady Autumn

Farewell Lady Autumn

“Farewell Lady Autumn" opens a brief window into the social life of Chinese women in the early 20th Century. It is the story of Qiu Jin, the woman who prepared the foundation of feminism in modern China that paved the pathway. Her media portrayals contribute to her reputation as a revolutionary, however only a few commemorate her vision and work as a feminist.

Great story needed to be told for a global audience.. actors did a good job & played beautiful traditional music live on stage. The director may have avoided the slapstick comedy for the maid. It’s a serious subject & needs a serious tone. But overall was enjoyable

A gripping story told so well, performers played incredible roles, highly recommended to see, especially for advocates and strong personalities

The staging, and many changes of scenes, was well done in the small space. Loved the poems that wove the main story line and the dialogue, with the theme. The story was pertinent, well written, and I enjoyed the journey. The humour was good and gave some balance to those sadder parts of violence (revolution, gender and domestic).
The Guhzeng playing was beautiful and gave a story in itself. Would have loved more of it. Actors had many good moments, though still some more art to learn.

Historically interesting but the script was loose, staging repetitive and acting quite stiff

The Guzheng performance was outstanding. The fictional humorous character is a highlight to the play.

great storyline and really thought out scene changes. Fanny was a showstopper!

Can't rate this event as the doors were locked when we arrived for the show a few minutes past the starting time. The closure of Lygon Street & the F1 crowds delayed our arrival. We waited for some 20 minutes & then a man came out saying the doors were locked when the performance started.
We wouldn't have waited if they had posted such a notice at the entrance. It gave the impression that the show was cancelled. Two messages were left on their answering machine but still no reply after 3 days. Consider arriving early for this show/venue to avoid disappointment.

The show was most enjoyable, played by an amazing cast and crew. Very thought provoking historical drama delving into the fight for social feminism change.
Qiu Jin’ role portrayed such a remarkable woman in fighting for women’s freedom. Her instrumental performance was outstanding.
Would definitely recommend this theatre experience.
