Faith, knowledge and power collide in this brand new opera by Richard Mills that examines the fortunes of one of the world’s greatest thinkers.

A complex life which came into conflict with the political and religious powers of the day, Galileo is a searching meditation on questions of faith in a violent, hostile and uncertain world.

With the combined forces of La Compañia and Orchestra Victoria, and starring Victorian Opera favourite, baritone Samuel Dundas as Galileo — this project will celebrate the artistic legacy of Richard Mills.

Great music and libretto. Well orchestrated and very well played and sung. Would benefit from some staging and costumes to set the scenes and characters, nothing very elaborate. Certainly worthy of further development and performances.

A moving, important and relevant story to tell today. I hope it gets the full-scale production treatment down the track.

Extremely strong smell of mole balls with some more nasty smells at the Palace Theatre was overpowering and gave us a headache. Had to leave during the interval.
Production looked like made by amateurs.

No decorations. No costumes. Everyone wearing black suites: Angels, devils, the pope...

What was also disappointing is that some of the actors were using electronic devices, while telling the story of 15 th century..

An ambitious work with excellent performances. Bravo Richard Mills. Thank you for the opera!
