An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.

An entertaining production with terrific young talent. Barfee did a great job portraying teenage awkwardness and the audience participation was a nice touch. The slow motion scene was very clever and the timely revealing of each character's past and future life rounded off the show nicely.

For an independent production, this is an amazing effort. Its a fabulous book, and I've seen it before (by MTC starring Magda Szubanski), but this performance was still loads of fun. Strong performances and great voices, and witty engagement with the audience. A must see!
