Noises Off

Noises Off

Brimming with slapstick comedy, Noises Off is a delightful backstage farce!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like backstage during the performance of a play? Sometimes, its funnier behind the scenes than on the stage.

As the slapstick comedy “Nothing On” is touring the county theatre circuit in England in the 1960s, the audience is treated to the dramas, mishaps and interpersonal relationships that occur between the cast as they struggle to rehearse, perform and tour the play.
With a philandering director in a love triangle, an aging star and her toy boy and an elderly alcoholic actor in the mix chaos is sure to ensue!

The play progresses from flubbed lines and missed cues in the dress rehearsal to mounting friction between cast members in the final performance. Complete with slamming doors, falling trousers, and — of course — flying sardines!

Director David Sinclair returns to the Rep with this comedy within a comedy, having last directed the award winning Australian premier production of “August: Osage County” in 2014.

“Noises Off is reputed to be one of the finest examples of comedic farce for the stage winning numerous Tony, Drama Desk and Critics Circle awards on Broadway” says David Sinclair. Hollywood saw the success of the play and a movie was made in 1992 starring a stellar cast including comedy royalty Carol Burnett and brilliant actors such as Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve and John Ritter. David says, “this play will have the entire audience gagging with laughter.

David is an experienced director and has directed for many of Adelaide’s theatre companies including, Therry Theatre, The Met, Mayfair Theatre Company, The Adelaide Repertory Theatre, Independent Theatre, The Hills Musical Theatre Company and The G&S Society of SA. He has received ATG and TASA awards for a number of his productions including “Pippin”, “The Drowsy Chaperone”, “August: Osage County” and for Therry the wonderful Gershwin musical “Crazy For You”. This year he directed the highly successful production of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Company” for Therry Theatre.

So, strap yourself in for a rollicking ride and make your way to the Arts Theatre in September for night of mayhem and mirth!
