Vibrating Air Series: Magdalenna Krstevska
Monash University Performing Arts Centres welcomes Melbourne’s own Magdalenna Krstevska to the David Li Sound Gallery in the first of six concerts in 2023’s Vibrating Air series.
Bringing women composers to centre stage, Europe-based Krstevska will perform dynamic clarinet repertoire in her only Melbourne performance.
Award-winning instrumentalist Magdalenna Krstevska will perform hidden gems of the clarinet repertoire by composers from all over the world; Australia, Finland, America, Israel and England. From Ross Edward’s Binyang, inspired by melodic Australian birdsong, to Miriam Hyde’s romantic Sonata for clarinet and piano, and Shulamit Ran’s dramatic Monologue, expect a program of works that demonstrate the incredible range, versatility and evocative power of the clarinet.
The internationally celebrated artist has performed as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral clarinetist in renowned music halls across the UK, Australia, Europe, and China.
A strong advocate of diversity in classical music, she is the founder of the Corelia Project, an initiative that promotes the works of women composers within the classical community.
Krstevska is joined on stage by pianist Leigh Harrold. Currently an Associate Artist at the Australian National Academy of Music, Harrold enjoys a reputation as a ‘musician of rare talent and intelligence’ and is one of Australia’s busiest and most sought-after artists right now.
