Coming Out

Coming Out

A searing satire of online queer culture and fluid sexuality.

Lynda and Simon have been happily married for 25 years. They have two college-aged children and a perfectly presentable middle-class life. Simon has never found the right time to tell his wife about his fluid sexuality, but she’s about to find out.

Woven around a cabaret drag show exploring queer culture, Coming Out is a premiere production of a new play from Australian Writer’s Guild Award-winning Playwright, Scott Taylor. Starring Stephen Loftus, Perri Cummings and Olivia Piplios.

A little cabaret
A little comedy
And a lot of drama!

Main character was too self absorbed and found it not engaging. I left at intermission.

This was an interesting and engaging production. It certainly presented ideas, perspectives and understandings which were new to me. The play was well written and drew the audience in, wanting to know more. The visuals, singing and storyline ’twists’ maintained your interest throughout. It certainly challenged you as a member of the audience and as part of wider society.

Coming Out was a rare glimpse and a deep dive into the private lives of a family in crisis re-examining their roles in light of new information revealed by an ex-boyfriend of the father and husband. The performances were stunning, the musical aspects and the wardrobe changes of the cabaret artist add an extraordinary lightness of being to the drama. It was a most witty, touching and wholly entertaining show.

Really enjoyed this play. The acting was excellent. It was interesting to see the challenges a gay person faces throughout their life and the judgements they face.

Loved Coming Out. Great acting by all performers. Thought Stephen Loftus (Cole and Micheal) was fantastic. Such an engaging and thought provoking piece of theatre. So glad we had the opportunity to see it.

A confronting piece of theatre that addresses the complexities of "Coming Out"

A well scripted play and well acted performance. I dealt with the complexities of coming out in a very thoughtful and comprehensive way. Much more sophisticated than many of the coming out shows I have seen. Highly recommended.

The playwrite also stars in this performance and has assembled a cast that brings this story to life. Entriguing. Entertaining and insightful at time.

Mary

Interesting performance which interspersed drama with cabaret. The exchanges between the penitent husband and his angry wife were particularly good to experience.
