Mourning Tea

Mourning Tea

The show stars Kim Lewis (Sons & Daughters, Senior Moments) as Grace Stevens who works in a lovely small-town funeral home Beebe & Sons, serving morning tea to the mourners. But now her new boss could be the new-age Hal Samson, of Samson’s Life Celebrations; who wants to turn funerals into a party, complete with luaus, skydiving and fireworks! A horrified Grace is determined to save Beebe & Sons and be rid of Hal Samson, which would be a lot easier if she wasn’t falling in love with him.

‘It’s fantastic to be doing my first one woman show’ says Kim Lewis. ‘It’s a relief to finally be in a play where the whole cast understands how important I am.’

‘Mourning Tea is a crowd pleaser’, says writer-director Angus Fitzsimons (Mono & Senior Moments). ‘Unless they misread the title and are actually expecting morning tea, in which case we have scones available’.

Kim Lewis first gained fame playing Jill Taylor on Sons and Daughters. After that she decided to learn how to act and went to NIDA. Her distinguished theatrical career includes The Crucible, Dead White Males, The Heidi Chronicles and Catholic School Girls. Her undistinguished theatrical career consists of starring in all national seasons of the smash hit comedy revue Senior Moments with Max Gillies, John Wood, John Howard (the actor one) and Benita Collings. Her TV credits include The Doctor Blake Mysteries, All Saints, G.P., Blackrock, Packed to Rafters, The Jesters and Squizzy Taylor. Nicole Kidman is Kim’s understudy in real life, which is immensely frustrating for Ms. Kidman because Kim is a seasoned pro and has yet to miss a single performance day’.

Apart from being Australia’s second tallest playwright; Angus FitzSimons is also the author of the bestsellers Senior Moments: The Complete Guide on How to Be Senior and To Kill a Mockingbird. (The latter title is still in dispute, thanks to the ridiculously litigious estate of Harper Lee; who refuse to accept Mr FitzSimons’ ‘time-travel plagiarism’ defence). His TV credits include writing for Andrew Denton, Comedy Inc, Backberner, CNNN, Good News Week, SBS’s Life Support and The Jesters with Mick Molloy and Susie Porter. He has previously directed his feet to the sunny side of the street, the Senior Moments Revues and Mono. Mr FitzSimons is pleased to announce his latest lawsuit is with the estate of Agatha Christe, due to his new theatrical thriller The Moosetrap.
