Driftwood The Musical

Driftwood The Musical

Driftwood – The Musical is a theatrical adaptation of Eva de Jong-Duldig’s critically acclaimed memoir, Driftwood: Escape and Survival Through Art, which tells the inspirational story of the renowned Austrian/Australian sculptor Karl Duldig and his artist/inventor wife, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig. The story takes in their romantic and artistic lives in pre-war Vienna and Slawa’s ingenious invention of the foldable umbrella. It follows the couple as they rebuild their lives as artists in Melbourne following their miraculous escape from the Holocaust.

This is a magical story of art and creativity, survival and perseverance, family, freedom and love, and the endurance of the human spirit.

This epic story has been adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Jane Bodie and composer Anthony Barnhill with Lyrics by Anthony Barnhill, Tania de Jong AM and Jane Bodie. A stellar cast is directed by Gary Abrahams.

This is a strong family tale told with excellent music, script and singing. The inventor of the fold-up umbrella becomes a refugee from Europe prior to WWII and we are taken on her journey with sculptor husband and baby daughter to Australia. The difficulties of communication and uncertainties of knowledge of the fate of family is compellingly told.
This is a well produced musical play which will appeal on many levels.

A tale of the power of love and survival.

I would recommend this production to everyone.

I watched Driftwood tonight and the show stirred me to my core.

Driftwood sends a strong message to humanity about the tapestry that binds a family and the terror inflicted by oppressive, destructive rule, ripping loved ones apart.

The sublime trio on stage supported the performance with soulful, traditional, and appropriate music, the set design, the story, the actors, and the voices were top class!

This is a highly professional production, creatively presented that leaves you richer and wiser by the end of the show.

Driftwood demands a big stage and a grand audience. It must be heard and people will be grateful for the experience.
