Parvyn and Emily Rose & the Wild Things

Parvyn and Emily Rose & the Wild Things

In an intimate and incredibly special double headliner, two acclaimed performers along with their full bands will be presenting a night of stunning music at the Brunswick Ballroom. Be ready to immerse yourself in the bliss of Parvyn and Emily-Rose, as they weave stories through sounds traversing pop, electronica, Indian, jazz, folk, indie and experimental. These celebrated musicians have curated an evening to inspire you, and it is guaranteed to be a standout concert experience for your 2022 as we embrace the return of live music.

Parvyn is a Punjabi-Australian singer best known for her work in cult psychedelic band The Bombay Royale, and performing globally since childhood with her father Dya Singh. Parvyn’s current solo project represents a new step in her career and is informed by pop, electronica and jazz, her background in Sikh devotional music and her training in classical Indian music and dance.

Her debut solo record ‘Sa’, released Sep 2021, heralded as an ‘multigenre, multicultural, masterpiece’ – The Australian, was nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize and has collaborations with producers Joelistics, Yelderbert and Bob Knob (HopeStreet Recordings). With influences from Bjork to Anoushka Shankar, it is immersed in a reflective world of different cultures and perspectives.

EMILY-ROSE AND THE WILD THINGS

In a world which dances between jazz, folk, songwriter and experimental, one finds lyrics of weight and beauty, underpinned by profound but constantly fresh acoustic and electric worlds. Headed by Songstress and keys player Emily-Rose Sarkova, her full band will be presenting songs from their debut album ‘Upon These Open Skins’, which has been compared to sounds as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Hiatus Kaiyote, Sam Amidon and Dirty Projectors.

From performing classical piano in French cathedrals, klezmer accordion across Poland, tango in Buenos Aires and funk keyboards and synths at the infamous Pineapple Lounge, Woodfordia, there isn’t much music Emily-Rose hasn’t explored. You may know her from ARIA nominated group Chaika, soft songwriting duo Little Clouds or improvising solo piano as ‘Slow Streams’.

Absolutely loved this show with two wonderful female artists taking the lead. Both acts and bands were most enjoyable and Brunswick Ballroom is a favorite venue, never disappoints with the talent on show there.
I had seen and enjoyed Parvyn before, Emily Rose and the Wild Things were a revelation! I left the venue walking on a cloud of joy at the end of the night. What a treat it was!!

Parvyn has a great voice, and her guitarist was excellent. Unfortunately the bass guitar dominated, and not in a good way, somewhat destroying the experience. I loved her classical.performances and also Bombay Royale, and although I enjoyed this performance I found her song lyrics and discussions during the sets a bit "adolescent".
