Elizabeth

Elizabeth

From the famed director of Notting Hill and Tea with the Dames, comes ELIZABETH. A nostalgic, uplifting and modern documentary about Queen Elizabeth II – the greatest British monarch of all time and longest serving female head of state in history.

For the last nine decades Queen Elizabeth II has been entrenched in our collective consciousness: instantly recognisable, yet elusively and perpetually unknowable. Until now. With extraordinary access to rare footage from the Royal Archives, ELIZABETH is a truly cinematic celebration of an icon that reveals a unique glimpse of the woman behind the legend.

Released nationally April 21

Good insights to the monarch's life behind the scene. In some parts I feel the story is a bit confusing and not flowing well. I still enjoy the afternoon learning something knew about the royal family.

Wonderful unseen footage of the Queen that humanises her and gives us a glimpse of a down to earth joyous witty stunning woman. I loved learning through the footage that she worked hard during the war as a mechanic, in regular overalls and alongside everybody else, and I loved learning that young boys and men like Paul McCartney who was 14 when she was in her 20s fancied her and this directing me to see her in a different light with the stunning images and delightful footage.
I appreciate the artistic flare of throwing in images and film clips to compare the Queen or make a point... but I didn't enjoy it because I found it abruptly intrusive and disruptive. At time I also found it disjointed which I didn't enjoy. Still more than worth seeing.

I was quite surprised, but this movie was way better than I had expected. I loved the way the film maker portrayed what would be rather boring footage into a creative, artistic and comical way. There were lots of interesting facts I now know about the monarchy that I never knew before.
