'Night of Broken Glass’ tells the story of Kristallnacht in Germany and a Yorta Yorta man in Footscray. In 1938, ‘Uncle’ William Cooper walked from his home in Footscray to the German consulate in South Melbourne, to protest the Nazi pogroms against the Jews. It was a remarkable gesture of solidarity by a man from one of the world’s most mistreated communities.
With the Aboriginal Advancement League, Uncle William was a strong voice for Indigenous rights in the early 20th century. Help us take forward the work he began more than 80 years ago, by adding a top-up to your ticket price.
