Jake Mason Trio with Special Guest Chris Maunders (chromatic harmonica)

The Jake Mason Trio will perform tracks from their ARIA Jazz Album of the Year nominated record “Stranger in the Mirror” and premiere new compositions from the forthcoming album “The Modern Ark” with Special Guest Chris Maunders (chromatic harmonica).
Taking cue from the golden era of Hammond organ artists such as Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff and Dr. Lonnie Smith as well as music from today’s melting pot, the trio weave their way through familiar sounds with a modern twist. Bluesy soul-jazz, blazing vigour and soundtrack-esque territory.

The Jake Mason Trio features multiple ARIA award winner Danny Fischer on drums, James Sherlock (Katie Noonan, Megan Washington, MSO) on guitar and Jake Mason on Hammond Organ.

Jake Mason is a multi-instrumentalist and prolific songwriter who has released twelve albums; gained platinum sales in Australia and established his own label and production house. Nominated for ARIA song of the year, he co-wrote and co-produced the Kungs Vs Cookin’ On 3 Burners chart topper “This Girl”, hitting the #1 spot in 10 countries and reaching the Top 10 in 37 territories.

An accomplished live performer, he has worked with artists such as Richard Clapton, Kylie Auldist, Clare Bowditch and Hugh Jackman and has co-written with Kate Ceberano, Eric McCusker and Tania Doko to name a few.

Being the first in the country to carry out a Bachelor degree on the chromatic harmonica, Chris Maunders is the only harmonicist to attend Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) as well as one of few to win the Tamworth Golden Harmonica competition on the chromatic harmonica in 2011. He has gained a large amount of experience and recognition playing with diverse groups from Blues to Bebop, Afrobeat to Ethiopian groove and many styles in between. He has performed in countless bars, music venues and festivals and enjoys time spent with students discussing all musical concepts and approaches to playing.

The Count’s venue is housed in the Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts at Monash University. It's a sophisticated contemporary live music oasis right in the middle of the suburbs hosting live music Wednesday to Friday nights. Come along and discover the new home for live music in Melbourne’s South-East.
