Rita, also known as Israel¹s Queen of Song, will perform in Australia for the first time, in April 2009 at the Palais Theatre, Melbourne, and the Sydney Opera House.
Known as The Singer
of the State of Israel, Rita sings in both Hebrew and English and
has been delighting audiences for over twenty years in venues across the US,
Europe and Israel. Rita combines the Middle Eastern lilt of her Persian heritage with a
Western orientation and her Australian shows will include music and highlights from her
recent Ramazim tour. In January 2008, Rita released Remazim.
The album, her first in five years, was widely heralded as a milestone in her career and sold over 40,000
copies in its first two months of release.
Critically acclaimed for its unique sound and atmosphere,
the primarily acoustic album was produced by singer Ivri Lider and features songs
written by Idan Raichel, Rita and her husband, the acclaimed musician Rami Kleinstein. Remazim
launched a new tour and some of the most impressive and aesthetically spectacular shows of her career.
Featuring breathtaking lighting, unique stage design and original presentation, the Remazim
tour was acknowledged by reviewers to be the most exciting and intimate that Rita has ever produced.
Her two Australian shows will incorporate highlights of the tour and feature a wide range of music
from her extraordinary two decade long career. Born in Iran to Jewish parents, Rita moved to Israel when she was
eight years old. By then she was already a devotee of pop music.
