Led by Melbourne trumpeter and composer Peter Knight, this unique group was formed in 2001 by local 'Western;suburbs musicians to draw musical inspiration from the vitality of the mix of cultures in the local environs of Melbourne's inner west. The original core of saxophonist Paul Williamson and Knight (both well known bandleaders), with bassist Howard Cairns were soon joined by percussionist Ray Pereira and string multi-instumentalist Dung Nguyen (on the dan tranh; dan baol dan nhi, and a modified electric guitar) to bring both the authentic African and Vietnamese influences to blend with jazz.
