CATS (2019)

CATS (2019)

Universal Pictures and Working Title’s CATS is a most-unexpected film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved smash musical “Cats” and the poems from “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,” by T.S. Eliot. Oscar®-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables, The Danish Girl) brings astonishing new technology to transform his performers, who will be choreographed by visionary movement pioneer Wayne McGregor, CBE. Acclaimed casting director Lucy Bevan is casting the film adaptation.
The epic will be produced by Hooper and Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, as well as fellow Les Misérables producer Debra Hayward—who brought the idea to Working Title. CATS will be produced by Working Title Films in association with Monumental Pictures and The Really Useful Group and executive produced by three-time Oscar® winner Steven Spielberg, Lloyd Webber and Angela Morrison. Hooper and Lee Hall (Billy Elliott, War Horse) have adapted the story for the screen.

A fun night out, didn't think the movie was half as bad as it's reviews!

ashke

Better than expected. Def not as bad as media portrayed, though some parts were a bit "off". Loved the music, the actors were great, CGI could have been done differently but overall I quite enjoyed it.

Wonderful adaptation and the 'digital fur technology' was very realistic. I loved the dancing!

Morris

We both loved it, Film allowed the imagination greater scope than the stage performance.

The characters are interesting, the graphics beautiful and the singing is great. Better if you know the story beforehand.

I've never seen any Cats stage production before, so I have nothing to compare the film to. Enjoyed the singing, CGI mostly worked. Enjoyable evening. Thanks On the House!

Great costumes and singing was superb

Thoroughly enjoyed the film, but the organisation of the event was not good.
Limited signage, directed round in circles, sent to different points by different staff and finally left waiting in a queue for 20 mins while the staff waiting to let us in were all lined up just waiting until the appointed time.

Key actors that are excellent story tellers cut through, While the rest, it was difficult to pick up the narrative from their singing. This was particularly the case at the beginning where the scene is being set. For someone not familiar with the show I was frustrated at the beginning due to not having a clear understanding. James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench andd Ian McKellan were all wonderful. Judi and Ian were mesmerising and a masterclass in character acting.

Better than expected! Not too many alterations from the original and those that there were actually improved the story. And the music, of course, is wonderful!

Wasn't really my cup of tea. Some of the singing was like they were trying too hard, although the new female lead was brilliant. CGI was a bit much at times I thought. Ok movie but I wouldn't rush out to see it.

Great adaptation, amazing costumes & makeup & CGI. Terrific cast, especially the two relatively unknown leads plus Dame Judi and Ian. Highly recommended if you've seen the stage show, may be a bit hard to understand if you haven't.

If you seen the live play you will love the movie version. a big cast and beautifully filmed Truly lots of ‘memories ‘ here as you sing along to all the songs and enthralled by the computerised costumes that are very real life animation
