Recitals Australia presents the final concert in its 2019 virtuoso series on Saturday 23 November at 2.30pm in the Ukaria Cultural Centre, Mt Barker.
The concert features violinist Madeleine Easton, performing with Celia Craig on oboe and Josh van Konkelenberg on organ and continuo for a special concert on the theme of ‘Baroque Metamorphosis’.
A very fine continuo chamber organ (made by Kenneth Tickell & Company Ltd) will be brought to Ukaria for this concert which will include JS Bach’s Double Concerto for Oboe and Violin, Handel’s Trio Sonata in G major, Vitali Chaconne and more.
Madeleine Easton returns to Australia after leading major orchestras and baroque ensembles in the UK and Europe. Madeleine is part of the Australian World Orchestra and artistic director and founder of Australia’s newest dedicated Bach ensemble, ‘Bach Akademie Australia’.
Celia Craig is familiar with stages and back-stages in Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Boston, Glasgow, Sydney, Frankfurt, Birmingham, Vilnius, New York, Sao Paulo, London and St Petersburg, her orchestral career has taken her touring to five continents, working closely with many of the world’s top musicians. Celia’s many TV, film, CD and broadcast credits, many recorded at Abbey Road Studios, include Daybreakers, Australia, South Solitary, Legends of the Guardians, Anne Boleyn and Dr Who. Celia has also performed for Her Majesty the Queen (her Eightieth Birthday concert at the Royal Albert Hall) Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Vladimir Putin, and John Howard.
Joshua van Konkelenberg studied piano and composition at the University of Adelaide and the Australian National Academy of Music before relocating to London to study organ and improvisation. He received the degree of Master of Music with distinction in 2012, and completed the Ph.D. in Composition (at the University of Adelaide) in the same year.
Amongst his many awards Joshua won the Walford. E. Davies Prize for Dux of the Organ Faculty at the Royal College of Music.
He has recently been appointed as the Musical Director for Co-Opera. Previously Josh held the position of Principal Organist at St Peter’s Cathedral, Adelaide, and Artist-in-Residence at Marryatville High School and is a passionate teacher of the organ, piano, and classical improvisation.
