Peggy Pickit Sees the Face of God

Peggy Pickit Sees the Face of God

Who is Peggy Pickit? And, how does she see the face of God?
Written in 2010, and described as a post-colonial version of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”, “Peggy Pickit Sees the Face of God” is a story about old friends from medical school who meet for dinner after an interruption of six years. Liz and Frank have made their lives here in the West. They’ve done well for themselves. Carol and Martin have just returned from a six-year stint in Africa. Their return seems to have been caused by a deteriorating situation which forced them to flee.
Director Joh Hartog says, ‘Schimmelpfennig is an amazing writer who has written a number of plays about the West coming to terms with a non-western culture. In this play, it is the vast difference between the western and refugee African experience that I find to be particularly meaningful. There is no doubt in my mind that being exposed to the dire conditions in refugee camps irrevocably and permanently changes people.’

This play was really interesting in multiple ways. It took me a while to follow the repetition of some dialogue until I realised why but then I was just engrossed in the acting and the multi-faceted plot and social commentary. I enjoyed it alot

Outstanding performance and confronting at times but had me captured for the full 65 minutes Great venue also allows you to get close to the actors well written and the team of 4 on stage were all brilliant
