Small Mouth Sounds

Small Mouth Sounds

How do you speak your mind when you can't say a word?

Six runaways from city life embark on a silent meditation retreat nestled away in the quiet of the woods. Their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect; how do you speak your mind when you’re forbidden to say a word? Hilariously profound, Bess Wohl’s smash hit transcends language and asks how do we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us?

Small Mouth Sounds is “a play unlike any other” (Huffington Post), lauded for its luminous approach to storytelling. Described as “flawless” by Variety and a “quiet gem of a play” by the New York Times, don’t miss the Australian premiere of this ingenious work.

WE found this quite slow moving and lacking interest at times.

A meditation retreat was an interesting setting for a play as the actors cannot speak. We thought how does the play progress without dialogue? Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised, it was entertaining and funny at times as the flaws in the character's relationships and life issues bubbled to the surface.

This play was very entertaining; the actors pulled off their stay in a silent retreat with wonderful acting. I can highly recommend it was really enjoyable.

Really enjoyable and entertaining show. Amazing how much can be communicated in so few words!

Interesting concept, 6 actors muzzled by playing ‘inmates’ at a silent retreat. How do you communicate with others within the silence? All have a story to share, sometimes sad or tragic. Even the guru who leads them through their retreat has a story to share. I found it poignant, many found it hilarious. I enjoyed the stage craft and sets and it’s a fine venue.
