Cine Latino Film Festival

Cine Latino Film Festival

Cine Latino Film Festival, Australia’s largest festival of Latin American cinema, returns to Palace Cinemas nationally this November. This year’s Festival features films from across the region, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Paraguay. The program includes a strong line-up of critically acclaimed films, many of which have been submitted to represent their country at the upcoming Oscars® such as Alfonso Cuarón’s ROMA (Mexico), Marcelo Martinessi’s THE HEIRESSES (Paraguay), Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra’s BIRDS OF PASSAGE (Colombia), and Luis Ortega’s EL ÁNGEL (Argentina).

This year’s selection also caters to all tastes and features highly anticipated thrillers (ANIMAL) and smash hit comedies from the region (HOW TO BREAK UP WITH YOUR DOUCHEBAG) as well as a Cuban retrospective for patrons to enjoy some classics from Havana on the big screen. And returning from last year’s program, the line-up features a CINE ARGENTINA section, with eight of the most recent box office Argentinean hits.

In 'Violeta At Last' one could feel the very emotional attachment that Violeta felt for her beloved home. It was hers and no one was going to take it away from her. Sadly, her exhusband was not held accountable for his unforgiving action which left Violeta vulnerable. We witness sensitive & compassionate friendships, a lodger's kindness and a purposeful reflection on the financial difficulties often faced by the elderly. The open-ended last scene, together with Violeta's resilience, gives hope to her future security.

The sessions I could attend booked out by phone and earlier reservations before I could redeem my tickets at the box office. The range of films looked outstanding
