PVT. Wars

PVT. Wars

PVT. Wars
By James McLure

It’s 1975. Three U.S Servicemen, now Vietnam veterans, find themselves in a hospital, post war. Gately, a hillbilly; Silvio, a street-wise big city type; Natwick, a rich kid from Long Island. They tease, torment, and amuse each other in a vain attempt to distract themselves from the reality of returning to a world that doesn’t want them.

After recently successfully staging The Lonesome West, Lab Theatre in association with Aleksandar Vass and Vass Productions present PVT Wars as their second collaboration.

“Deliberately uneven mixing of humour and sadness.”

Some funny and sometimes poiningt moments in a production which should try to make it's own way more on topics which have been visited before.

Actors are really good, but the tale is really boring

janebrownrigg

Heavy duty drama.

Encouragement to the character actors. Humour was course, needs more subtly. Set and stage moving was good.

Nicely done. I really enjoyed the 70's costuming and set, and the story was well acted. It felt a bit overacted at times, the revelations / quiet moments weren't given any space to breath, and there was a lot of yelling/overtalking, but that's a directorial decision. The MVP to me was the actor playing Natwick, who managed to be sad/lost/confused while holding his own with the louder actors/characters. Overall I enjoyed it.

VIDAMARIA

Dynamic performances that don't hold back..

It was both funny and sad at the same time. The blackouts were very frequent though which were a bit annoying but overall it was good.

Worth seeing. Excellent local theatre with a real sense of the times.

Lab theatre continue to amaze! All actors played a convincing tale of their version of the Vietnam war. Without spoiling the plot and although a dark story, the moral and teachings learnt and taught throughout the show hit close to home.
A brilliant performance all round for something different to your average show.

Demon

Convincingly acted tale of 3 war damaged lost souls. Dark plot traversed with well written humour. Another worthy experience provided by Lab Theatre.
