If I should die before I wake

By Rebecca Lister

A performed Reading of the highly successful production ‘If I Should Die Before I Wake’ which has toured Victoria to great acclaim.

Wednesday, 16th April at 7.30pm
The Williamstown Mechanics Institute
Corner of Melbourne Road and Electra Street, Williamstown

‘If I Should Die Before I Wake’ introduces the audience to a family who must decide the future of Gillian a disabled adult whose forty-five years have been lived entirely in her parents’ home. Gillian’s elderly mother and younger sister Isabelle must contemplate care options that will take Gillian away from the environment that she knows. Like a child, Gillian is wilful, loving and happiest when routines and rituals are closely observed.

In keeping with Shy Tiger’s desire to produce work that reflects contemporary issues and concerns (A Tree, Falling explored the relationship between an Alzheimer’s patient and his community visitor), If I Should Die Before I Wake weaves together themes faced by all of us in the face of illness, old age and family life. Human contradictions are handled with a delicacy that induces laughter, empathy and despair.
