Lock up your mothers! Suren is young, brown, intellectual and a beta-male (i.e just what mothers like).

Fresh from filming a stand up special for ABC's Comedy Next Gen series, Suren Jayemanne is back at Melbourne International Comedy Festival with a brand new hilarious show.

Suren has been recognised by both the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals as one of Australia's best emerging acts – in 2014, Suren performed in The Comedy Zone showcase at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and in 2015 was part of the FRESH program for Sydney Comedy Festival.

Suren was likeable. Had few goods laughs. Needs to polish up more. Generally was enjoyable though short.

Some great laughs - shame I heard heard them already at other showcase performances I had seen Suren do.

Funny, what you want for a comedian, some good laughs but needs more work, needs to connect with his audience more.

Ninmi

It was entertaining, although there were moments when this show looked as not well prepared.

Carmelli

Great show. Well delivered and thought out. Very comfortable and smart comedy. Recommend it to others

zigzac

Witty, clean but hilarious humor even though Suren chose to tackle some confronting issues.

Poor Suren, the walls of the Mantra are so thin the act next door was continually getting laughs were he wasn't hitting the same highs. Seemed a little lost through the show and was constantly checking his notes and watch.
Feel for his girlfriend when she rates higher than his bluetooth speaker only because she brought it for him.
Its fine to be want to be a racial comedian but he had no new fresh ideas on the subject.

At what started out to be a very intimate show with only 5 others in attendance, another 10 or so turned up after the show started, so it was a very small audience.

Suren was a likeable fellow, and he did have a few good laughs - however it was obvious that it was opening night, and he appeared very unpolished - having to refer to his notes on a regular basis, and annoyingly kept watching his watch which was a distraction.

He had a unique sense of humour, spoke from a non-white perspective (his words, not mine!) and reminded me somewhat of Aziz Ansari.

Hopefully after a few more shows, he'll get the set more down pat, and will be more enjoyable.
