No rehearsals. A script waiting on stage in a sealed box. Benjamin Law, plus the playwright himself.
Direct from Edinburgh Fringe Festival comes NASSIM – an audacious theatrical experiment, featuring a different performer each night, exploring the power of language to unite humanity in unknown, uncertain times.
This award-winning show by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour follows the hugely popular White Rabbit Red Rabbit series – written when Soleimanpour, a conscientious objector, was forbidden to leave his native Iran, travelling the show in his place. Translated into 25 different languages, White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been performed over 1,000 times by some of the biggest names in theatre and film including Sinead Cusack, Ken Loach and Whoopi Goldberg, and locally by the likes of Kat Stewart, Shaun Micallef, Celia Pacquola. Now living in Berlin and able to travel, NASSIM sees Soleimanpour join each performer on stage.
Benjamin Law will take a step into the unknown on 24 January. Benjamin Law is a journalist, columnist, TV screenwriter and author of The Family Law and Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East and Quarterly Essay 67: Moral Panic 101. He’s the creator and co-writer of The Family Law, now an AACTA-nominated TV series for SBS.
