Performed with buckets of charm by New Zealand’s White Face Crew, La Vie Dans Une Marionette brings together physical theatre, clowning, dance and music composed by Yann Tiersen (Amelie) in a tale of a lonely pianist and the puppet he buys to keep him company.
Inspired by the European traditions of clowning and commedia dell’arte, with a uniquely New Zealand flavour, La Vie Dans Une Marionette showcases camaraderie through physical comedy, smooth moves, and spontaneous hilarity. This heartwarming story will have you falling off your seat with laughter – this is fun for the whole family, from 8 – 80!

Brilliant show - something for all ages!!
An exquisite performance. Each of the characters was defined by their mime. their movement and their wistful or energetic movement, as the play required. I found La vie Dans Une Marionette to have some very funny sides to it. The human emotions of mistrust, anxiety, loneliness, grief and annoyance were also clearly conveyed by the pianist, And there was a lot of joy. Each performer had a very well-defined character. How the marionette evolved from an awkward state- attached by invisible strings to the pianist/ puppeteer- into a graceful, sensate being who responds to music, depicted an amazing celebration. And how , almost inexplicably, after many moons have passed, the marionette just stopped responding to music- metaphorically died- was sad. A very sophisticated performance with minimalist props. Enthralling. Uplifting. Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend this wonderful offering.
