Soundtrack Sessions: Songs of The Big Chill

Soundtrack Sessions: Songs of The Big Chill

Take a deep dive into one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. When The Big Chill hit screens in 1983 its immaculate use of classic soul, Motown and pop-rock hits from the 60s and 70s instantly dug hooks into the popular imagination. Three decades later and it hasn't aged a day. Now the spirits of Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and more will be channeled by some of Melbourne's hottest instrumental maestros – Cookin' on 3 Burners with guests Kylie Auldist, Andrew De Silva, Stella Angelico and Nina Ferro – for a one-night only event to rekindle the fire of a soundtrack that transcends the years

The Big Chill is the story of six old friends gathering in the wake of the death of one of their own. A rich exploration of the way time's passing transforms our relationships, it drew on a vast platter of songs that take us back to our younger selves. There's not a single entry in the mix that doesn't hit the right note, which makes The Big Chill the essential way to introduce audiences to Arts Centre Melbourne's new Soundtrack Sessions.

“There isn’t a bad song in the movie” – New York Daily

Some soundtracks are as famous as the films they spring from. Arts Centre Melbourne's new Soundtrack Sessions offer a sonic celebration of the playlists that escaped the screen to sear their way.

A great lineup of singers and musicians provided a wonderful concert-style performance. Voices were strong and clear and the audience responded well, spontaneously rising on to their feet for the final numbers so as to move to the music.

Absolutely fabulous entertainment!!!!

First half of the performance was actually surprisingly Good as the artists played practically the entire soundtrack of the "Big Chill" - pity they decided to not leave anything to "anticipate" for the second half of their act which was quite "ordinary"
