EXTREMITIES

EXTREMITIES

"EXTREMITIES" is a theatrical production that is part of the 2017 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

As its title suggests, it depicts a series of scenes where people find themselves in heightened life situations. Some of these circumstances are extremely terrifying and dramatic, while others are highly amusing and funny!

Examples of just some of the scenes include: The breakup of a marriage; experiencing life as a cat; meeting with a therapist who is whacky and eccentric; finding oneself held host age; encountering one's torturer from the past; meeting one's biological mother for the first time as an adult; finding oneself a visitor in a household of a whacky family with lots of dark secrets; attending a reunion with old university friends and discovering that some of their lives have moved in directions you'd never have imagined; living life on death row and confronting one's crime; falling in love - and a host of other scenes.

This eclectic mix of scenes means that there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy and/or think about. This is thought provoking, yet still entertaining theatre, where many scenes contain laughter in the midst of a situation where the stakes are high for the characters concerned.

The show would be suitable for anyone aged from 15 years upwards, although there is some course language and adult themes.

The show is directed by Chris Connelly and Michele Williams - two highly seasoned professional theatre practitioners.

The cast are Adult Students from Drama With A Difference - one of Australia's leading independent drama schools. It is the launching pad of many of Australia's most successful actors. Its students have performed in major and guest roles in high profile feature films, television series and professional theatre.

Some of the cast are seasoned professional performers, while others have a modicum of performance experience. A handful of the cast members are braving the stage for the first time in their adult life - a fact that ties in with the theme of the piece itself. After-all, performing in public is (for many people) one of human beings' greatest fears! All have been brought together by their professional directors, in a manner that makes for a seamless production, with a company of professional stage managers, lighting designers and operators.

This is theatre where amateurs and professionals work together in a formula that has been used successfully for over seven years, and in major Australian theatre festivals. It is a production of a semi-professional nature; with thought provoking, sometimes shocking, often hilarious, thought provoking and engaging scenes for all tastes.

No story, poor acting, no directtion. Was painful to watch

Ranging from poignant to funny, some scenes worked better than others. A little too long overall but entertaining and at times thought-provoking, glad i went.

We enjoyed the scenes especially the "wacky" family (the younger sister in particular was good)and the school reunion (the two lesbians in particular were good). Both of these scenes were very believable

As part of the Melbourne Fringe Extremities is a play you won't forget in a hurry ...
Intense, funny and very real ...

The actors are authentic with merely tables and chairs as props ...
The situations they find themselves in are in some cases humorous and in others highly dangerous ...

With a running time of approximately 2.5 hours with a break including complimentary tea and coffee ...

Would highly recommend ...
