BOWIE AND MERCURY RISING (26-30 JULY)

BOWIE AND MERCURY RISING (26-30 JULY)

BOWIE AND MERCURY RISING – MAJOR TOM AND KING FREDDIE LIVE FOREVER.

This concert celebrates the music and lives of Bowie and Mercury through the eyes of a London actress, searching for hope after the passing of David Bowie. Through her journey we re-imagine the life and times of these two much loved icons, through music and sublime dance. Warren Wills, winner of the Carling London Best Musical Award, returns to Chapel off Chapel with this new concert, after two sellout seasons of “Genesis to Broadway”.

Zimbabwean born and Melbourne based singer songwriter Thando Sikwila has been “placed in a league all her own” – Ms Hennesy Speaks Blog. 2015 saw the release of her single “Won’t You Be Mine”, touring the East Coast, and subsequently making her professional theatre debut as Ef e White in StageArt’s Dreamgirls. Jess Mortlock (On the Rocks) star, dancer extraordinaire, “a sparkling jewel”.

The concert re-imagines such classics as “Space Oddity”, ”Life on Mars”, “The Show Must go On”, ”We are the
Champions” and many others.

Don’t miss this spellbinding spectacle created and directed by Warren Wills (Royal Shakespeare Company,
Woody Allen, Pamela Anderson, Margaret Atwood). Lighting Design by Jason Bovaird (Movinglight Productions)

A wonderful performance by two very talented musicians Warren Wills and Thando Sikwila. His virtuosic playing combined with her incredible voice provided a truly uplifting tribute to Bowie & Mercury. The dancing was an interesting addition to the show.

Thando's voice was incredibly powerful and really put a new slant on some of the Bowie/Freddie songs. Loved her humour too! Warren's piano playing was amazing - the speed and skill truly remarkable. The dance component was great but not quite sure that it all jelled - loved it anyway!

Thoroughly enjoyed this amazing chocolate velvet voice!

Short philosophical comments delivered by Thando between her wonderful vocal tributes to Freddie and David were assisted by outstanding performances from her pianist and a single dancer. Something really different to experience and very enjoyable.

Warren Wills, musical maestro combined with the silky smooth vocals of Thando Sikwila gives a new groove to the beloved pair Bowie & Mercury's songs. Rolls Royce performances. Jess Mortlock's dance pieces beautifully performed but of questionable relevance.
