Chris Abrahams - The Necks' pianist

Chris Abrahams - The Necks' pianist

A solo piano performance by The Necks’ pianist Chris Abrahams is a special event. Following on from the release late last year of his fifth solo piano album, Climb, and fresh from performances in New York and Chicago, Chris’ solo career is entering a new phase.

Chris combines a probing approach to the sonic potentialities of the piano with a strong emotional and melodic sensibility. His music unfolds from simple starting points, in a mesmerising and, at times, psychedelic trajectory, to become something hallucinatory and epic. He uses a conventional pianistic approach to transcend the generally perceived sound world of the piano and his use of pianistic touch and dynamics explores the minutiae of the mechanism by which a piano hammer hits a piano string.

A real treat. Audience sat on stage, so very intimate performance.

An atonal sonic poem of sublime execution.

What Bluey said!

A very rare 5 star from me for a vituoso performance by Chris Abrahams, who for the entire performance played eyes closed from both heart and head a piece which from the start had his audience spell bound and transported in dream and thought. A real pleasure to sit so near such a performer without any interfering techno babble of amplification in the acoustically wonderful and impressive venue of Monash University's Robert Blackwood hall.
