It was good but it requires further refinement. I am not sure I would have wanted to pay full price.

The show was wonderful!

Bachmaninov

Thank you in the house, this is so fantastic!

Evelyn

A cute piece but needs refining, Translations too meagre for children to remain interested me thinks. But overall an interesting performance.

A nice intro to opera, however some interaction with the audience may have held the wee ones attention more.

julia

A lovely performance thoroughly enjoyed by adults & children alike. The story line was easy to follow (kids aged 7, 9 & 11) & stage setting looked terrific. Big thanks to OTH!

Great, but would of been even better if there were surtitles for all of it.

Bird030

Good idea as an introduction of opera to children, but not as engaging for the children as anticipated.

The orchestra was fantastic but I didn't know the would be singing in German. i struggled to understand what was happening in the play because I don't speak German.

TaraMareeBaby

Well presented, beautiful put together childish version of an old claissic. Children were still engaged for majority of the show despite the language barrier.

Great energy from the performers, Hard for kids to follow though. It's tough as sleeping beauty was so good the week before that it's hard to compare. I think they need more visual stimulation to keep the kids keen. I loved it though. Music was brilliant, singing was wonderful.

German operatic performance fairy tale story line. Would have been better enjoyed by a general audience as an English performance.

Gopal

A great little opera to introduce young ones to opera.

Megan_Cox

Great day out in the city - it was short (which was good) as it was difficult to follow being in German. But, there was plenty of spoken word and comedy to keep it ticking along.

What a wonderful fun performance for families. Fun storyline, great costumes and sets and fabulous singing !!!

Happyday

Children agrd 9 and 11 were a little disinterested and quite restless & bored at times. Perhaps simplicity of set and repetition of storyline to blame. Would have been nice if story was retold with a modern day twist, far too predictable even for the kids. Sorry would not recommend this one.

Ktee

Fabulous voices and the orchestra were superb. The length of the show and fun set design were perfect for the intended audience. However, the attempt to inject current day into a classic story seemed to add confusion for a young audience that was already struggling with the German. We've been keen supporters of Victoria Opera's family shows for the last few years and think they are a great introduction to opera for the entire family, sadly this one failed to capture our interest.

Fantastic!
Both our kid and we loved it

MIRANDA

Great piece of musical accompaniment to an amusing story!

Charlie

Excellent performances from the cast. The singing was fabulous, though the children could not understand why it was in German. The TV host did explain in English what was to happen and the same was on small screens on each side of the stage. Obviously this had to be read to younger children. An enjoyable show for all ages.

Kase

Not that appealing to adults as it was in German, but my niece really enjoyed it.

Marg812

Good elements but not the best from the Victorian Opera.

Russ

Great intro for 4 and 7 year olds. The seven year old is bilingual so understood the concept of it being sung in German. The 4 year old kept telling me "I can't understand them"
Good fun and throughly enjoyable. Only criticism would be to have in English as an introduction piece for children

taniasavona

Great introduction to opera for the young'uns!

ianventor

The slapstick elements certainly entertained the kids, but this was a small component of the performance. The operatic talents of the performers were certainly evident, but this play held little interest.

pippimolina

Delightful intro to opera. My niece loved it and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

nickbiker

A bit too modern for an opera, but kids enjoyed it.

aesthete

Kids loved it!!❤❤❤

Light opera at times a little boring

klara

excellent show for children

I thought the show was good, well done for children. Could have been more interesting for adults as well if the entire singing was sur-titled. The costumes were great.

Mouse590

Short and sweet. Bright and fun. A story within a story could be a bit confusing for some children. Excellent staging and costume design. Just enough in the text on side of stage to give a guide to the plot. A nice piece to take on the schools circuit.

Yola

Hard to keep the younger ones interested

Compared to "The Sleeping Beauty" recently, definitely one more for the kids, who seemed to particularly enjoy the slapstick elements.

I thought this was an excellent intro for children and young adults to opera. It is only when you present something relevant to people do they take a liking to it initially. Who doesn't know the story of The Princess and The Pea :) So, I thought it was very clever indeed. As always, great voices and acting by the fabulous cast at Victoria Opera. I want to also add that it is a real treat to be spoilt by a real live orchestra. We loved the show. Really wonderful.

Hilarious opera for whole family!Highly recommended. The only regret is my children's German not good enough to understand.

Moujahid

Brilliant, outstanding, great, thanks to the on the house crew again.

MicknJac

Excellent show. The 3 and 4 year old would have had more enjoyment from it in English. Great day

k00

Needs more work on the construction in order to maintain the audiences attention and to follow the story line, especially with a young audience. Perhaps lyics in english or complete translation needed. Great score, dramatic, well played, good movements and loved listening to it. Beautiful voices by all the actors.
