The Music Committee In Concert | Melbourne International Arts Festival

In two altogether different concert appearances The Music Committee of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (MCDC) offers audiences an intimate evening of new music. Internationally acclaimed composers, musicians, and longstanding Cunningham collaborators John King, David Behrman, Takehisa Kosugi and Christian Wolff, together with MCDC’s current sound supervisor Stephan Moore, perform two programs featuring their own original compositions and special dedications to the music of John Cage.

Concert A features a five-performer version of John King’s Trilogic Unity pieces as well as David Behrman’s Long Throw, commissioned as one of the music pieces to be paired with the MCDC dance eyeSpace.

Concert B features Or Four People by Christian Wolff and Takehisa Kosugi’s Op. Music and Cycles 2. Both concerts conclude with a new piece, For John, co-composed by members of The Music Committee as a tribute to John Cage. The Music Committee can also be seen performing live with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in Program A and B as part of this year’s Festival.
