Godspell Reimagined

Godspell Reimagined

Stephen Schwartz’s beautiful ride of peace, love and joy returns to Melbourne. With Special Guest Colleen Hewett.

One of the most popular musicals ever staged in Australia, this beloved off-Broadway musical has been reimagined with a vibrant young cast, rock ’n’ roll and street dancing.

With music by Stephen Schwartz (writer of smash-hit musicals Wicked and Pippin), Godspell was the brainchild of John-Michael Tebelak, who based the story on the Gospel of St Matthew.

Godspell dramatises the last days of Jesus, and includes rock and roll music set to lyrics from traditional hymns as well as a swag of beloved hits including ‘Day By Day’, ‘Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord’, ‘By My Side’, ‘Save The People’ and ‘All For The Best’.

Bringing together the band and cast into one creative community on stage, this production from Room 8 (At Last – The Etta James Story, Tapestry) includes a plethora of contemporary references to make this a funny and heart-warming night of musical theatre.

Loved it. Great interpretation and Colleen Hewitt appeared at the end.

Well performed and contained funny references to recent culture (eg. Trump). I haven't seen the original Godspell musical but I wasn't a fan of the songs very much. The lyrics are often too repetitive.

Very nice touch having Colleen Hewitt appear.

Great production with talented people.

Sadly Collen came in at the end and stole the show!! A wonderful treat but!!! As I left everyone was talking about Collen which distracted from the main performers.

What a talented crew, this was almost a 5 star production. Engrossed from start to finish and they were great getting the audience involved. Highly recommend.

A fantastic show that elicited remembrances of the original. I loved the skills of the performers in their variety of roles. Topical references in the script were a delight and Colleen's performance at the end was a real highlight.

Fabulous!
Such a pity we saw it on its last day as we would have given it a 'must see' to all our friends. Thank you.

A great musical which definitely was reinvented for a new audience. Highly talented actors/musicians really gave it their all. Was great that Colleen Hewett was part of the encore. Thanks OTH

Thoroughly enjoyable performance. Surprised by how many laugh out loud moments we had during the first act. Terrific cast.

A hard choice between 4 abd 5 rating. Cast did a stalwart job. The script had pathos, and some modern references. Music was fine, the staging was clever and the cast knew their roles on this second last performance. The person who stole the show was Colleen Hewett, who almost at the end sang Day by Day and had the audience in the palm of her hand. The voice is strong but not as smooth as it was in years gone by, however this lady even now is a STAR.
