Presented as part of the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Intimate Exchanges between Confidants and Strangers is a series of devised scenes about human relationships. It examines the notion of intimacy - sometimes humorously and at other times seriously. There will be something for everyone in the mix of scenes that are offered.
The company is The Drama With A Difference Production Group. Drama With A Difference is one of Australia's leading, independent drama schools. Having operated for over twenty years, it is the launching pad of many successful Australian actors. The school runs a wide variety of classes for all ages and levels.
Intimate Exchanges between Confidants and Strangers is presented by The Adult Drama Class. This is essentially a recreational drama class, with performers having a range of experience. Some have been on stage many times before, while for others this is their first brave public performance. The show therefore has a special quality; that of watching some experienced performers, and others who are overcoming what is widely accepted as one of our greatest fears; that of performing in front of other people. There is a dynamic energy that is not often present in professional theatre.
The group of adults who have come together for this project have created the scenes, along with their teacher / directors, from scratch. The teacher / directors are highly experienced professionals and have guided the students through the process of self-devised theatre. This is oftentimes a more confronting, intimate experience than pre-scripted work. Performers have brought their own ideas, own inner thoughts and sometimes inner fears, to the table, to be workshopped, and ultimately formed into a series of short scenes that form a full piece of theatre.
