AICE Israeli Film Festival 2016

AICE Israeli Film Festival 2016

The program for this year is a top selection of the best the contemporary Israeli film industry has to offer. It features entries from leading Israeli sales agents – Israeli Films, GO2 Films, Cinephil – a range of production houses, including United King Productions, Transfix Films, Laila Films – and several independent film makers.

Every film you see this year is in the competition and the line-up features a range of genres – romantic comedies, a Holocaust mystery, a Bedouin family drama, a Polish/Israeli horror film and several new independent movies. It’s a program that spans the old and the new – with performances from veterans of the stage and screen – Gila Almagor, Oded Teomi, Devora Keidar – to some of the new and upcoming faces and voices of the future.

Israel’s energetic documentary industry, the envy of many countries is also well represented this year. Plucked from the international festival circuit including Israel’s main documentary event, Doc Aviv, some of Israel’s top documentary filmmakers will also compete for the $25,000 award.

The Opening Night film for this year’s festival is Firebirds, a mystery drama nominated for ten Israeli Academy awards last year.

Very nice film. Good actors.
Loved the cinema.

Mr Unpredictable turned out to be Mr Prectable with a new questionable value system. Still made me laugh and better than any recent Hollywood offerings.

Despite initial impressions, The Demon proved to be a complex and compelling movie. It was somewhat challenging in that it was at times disjointed and ambiguous as to what was happening and why - perhaps the first time film makers inexperience was at play here. The start seemed pretty standard type of plot but by the finish it had shifted on several levels and invoked the feel of french new wave cinema or even an Ozu film - just my opinion! It was an interesting movie that I would recommend to anyone not brought up on hollywood type action.

A memorable, touching film - Who's Going To Love Me Now.

I found "Town on a wire" fascinating. A great snap shot of Israelies and Palestinians trying to be neighbours. And uplifting when the right man as Mayor comes to help.

Invisibles was a very well made film , and very engaging with the characters. Sad twist at the end .

Engaging, interesting and seemingly balanced view of the film's subjects & of some of the politics & issues of the region. Very watchable.

Annabeldelores

Very thought provoking - sad to think that there are still so many logistical, procedural and bureaucratic systems in place to create angst and emotional hardship - yet uplifting in that so many people were focused on the best outcome for one little girl! Very real conversations, situations, challenges and emotions shared with the audience.
