Jump First, Ask Later

Jump First, Ask Later

Jump First, Ask Later is an urban choreographic portrait of the streets of Fairfield in Western Sydney, the most culturally diverse region in Australia

Directed by Byron Perry, the work from Powerhouse Youth Theatre and Force Majeure tells the collective true stories of six young champions of Fairfield’s underground parkour and street style community. Urban freestyle forms and contemporary dance intersect to create a physical narrative that explores violence, migration, redemption and the collective freedom these artists discovered by mapping their city through dance.

At the heart of parkour is a mindset of creativity. A notion that the obstacles you encounter shouldn’t be avoided but rather deliberately engaged with in order to find your path – ‘jump first, ask later’.

“This is an amazing work. Take yourselves, your children and be made very, very happy.” – Kevin Jackson’s Theatre Diary

Great young talent, was delighted to be given the opportunity to experience this production. The cast weren't seasoned stage actors but terrific movement artists nonetheless. Well done

A really enjoyable presentation of athleticism and dexterity. These boys flew through the air twisting, turning and spinning in ways that I didn't know possible. The stories that they told were also interesting and the dancing was well choreographed. The size of the theatre made it possible to see everything from all vantage points!

Unbelievable athleticism and creativity. Felt like we, the audience, were out on the street watching these talented young people go about their thing, moving their bodies in ways that were awe inspiring and so very very clever. Poignant personal stories told, whilst doing so - another highlight of the show. Well done. Claps & cheers all round from a mixed audience.

What raw talent and amazing courage these performers have, on all levels. My 10 year old daughter could not open her eyes wide enough with facsination and interest in the tricks and stories told. Congratulations on a terrific show, will touch people of all ages.
