André Rieu’s 2016 Maastricht Concert in Cinemas

André Rieu’s 2016 Maastricht Concert in Cinemas

Known to millions as ‘The King of Waltz’, and one of the world’s most popular music artists, André Rieu’s legendary annual Maastricht concert is the most eagerly anticipated cinema event of the year, last year setting new box-office records in Australia and the UK.

Fans of the maestro don’t have long to wait before André Rieu's 2016 Maastricht Concert is delivered to more than 140 cinemas via satellite across Australia on Sat 30th & Sun 31st July @ 2pm AEST.

This year, André Rieu’s Maastricht Concert in Cinemas will screen ONLY in July, and not have Encore screenings in September as in previous years due to André Rieu’s Australian Arena Tour live concerts in October and November.

Set against the stunning medieval backdrop of the town square in André’s Dutch hometown, the spectacular Maastricht concert features the maestro in his element, with his world-famous 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra, sopranos (including Bris-born Mirusia, André’s ‘Angel of Australia’), tenors (including Tasmania-born Gary Bennett) and very special guests for an unforgettable musical experience full of humour, fun and emotion for all ages.

Commenting on this year’s event, André Rieu said: ‘Every year we find ways to make my hometown concerts a unique experience for our audiences – the people who are there and also those who watch us in the cinemas. We put a lot of time, energy and love into creating something special, some Maastricht magic”.

Each year maestro Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra, visits his homeland Maastricht in Netherlands for grand concert spectacular.

Right throughout Australia, on the 30th and 31st of July this year, Australians had the opportunity to get a glimpse of this majestic annual event at Vrijthof square by watching the concert in cinemas.

The Vrijthof square in Maastricht becomes an outdoor concert hall without a seat spared. The square is complete with restaurants and hotels. It is buzzing with excited people in the restaurants, watching through hotel windows, in the arranged seats of the square. The joy and energy is addictive. Us in the cinema are feeling this energy.

Then Andre Rieu walks along the footpath of the square waving and smiling at the people on the street. Right behind him is the orchestra. Each female performer wears a colourful ballroom dress whilst the men looked smart in their black suits.

The way the concert is presented in cinema, it is easy to forget that you are not right there in Maastricht. The programme showcased wonderful melodies – delightful waltzes, well loved opera pieces and musicals.

Andre Rieu and his orchestra entertain generously, tirelessly. Andre is a charmer and showman. He jokes and enchants people with his playfulness. He is the centrepiece – the main violin and the conductor. The musical arrangements are fabulous. Not only is the musicianship superb, the musicians are amusing with their jokes, gestures, and facial expressions.

The live audience as well as the people in the cinemas are moved. The event evokes emotions - people are crying, kissing, dancing, and hugging.

Three hours go by in an eye blink. It makes sense that an event like this should only end with spectacular fireworks – as it did.

How funny, talented & entertaining is Andre Rieu! Wonderful, serious musicians all of them who clown around on stage. Didn't know the Dutch were so playful. Better than any concert I have been to at Opera Houses around the world with their stiff etiquette when you can only clap at certain times and there is no rapport with the audience. No wonder Andre has an enormous following. Just brilliant.

Andre Rieu was amazing as usual - brilliant performances and a stunning spectacular! The movie is almost as good as being there in person - can't wait to see him on his Australian tour!

Thank you for the opportunity to see him once more as was a fabulous way to spend an afternoon

Andre Rieu - at his Mastricht best - is the closest one can ever get to entering the Pearly Gates of Musical Heaven!!!

Incredible show, stunning performances.

A must see :-)

Great show! Really fascinating! I was a bit concerned that we wouldn't have enough patience to sit through the 3 hour concert in a cinema with my 9 year old. But it was so entertaining and full of great music that we both didn't want it to finish.
