There’s Mr Butler (Rory Walker) a profit-hungry store manager struggling with a bitter divorce and a bad dance routine; Narelle Sims (Catherine Campbell) the widowed checkout chick slowly making her way through the junior shelf stackers; Zayeeb Dash (Fahad Farooque) who fancies his fruit and vegetables and is attempting to conquer the strange Aussie vernacular; Dave Fisher (Sean Weatherly) the geeky store assistant flaunting his arts degree about, hoping for an in-house promotion to fix his failed marriage; and Mrs Zimmerman (Jacqy Phillips) an elderly Jewish patron suffering from loneliness and a bad bout of sharp tongue.
‘Who would have thought there were so many dimensions to life behind the scenes in the supermarket? It's a great concept for a musical. Weatherly hits the nerve for universality. Who doesn't come across world-weary checkout chicks? Who hasn't asked an aisle stacker for help? Who doesn't get peeved when there are too many Home Brands on the shelves?
