BBC Proms
In 2016, the BBC Proms is coming to Melbourne for a limited season.
Held over four days from 13 – 16 April 2016 at Arts Centre Melbourne, BBC Proms Australia will bring the magic of the Proms to Australian audiences, providing a taster of this iconic festival. This is the first time the Proms has been held outside of the UK in this way and promises to be a triumphant celebration of classical music. It will also mark the first time that orchestras from three Australian cities play together in one program. In what will be a world-class concert experience, BBC Proms Australia will showcase the talents of a range of musicians, offering a mix of traditional repertoire alongside new Australian commissions from Nigel Westlake and Gordon Hamilton. Iconic works from Berlioz, Bernstein and Saint-Saëns stand side by side with contemporary pieces such as Gordon Hamilton’s Thum Prints.

A memorable and enjoyable concert with wonderful photography and a talented orchestra.
The Orchestra was great and would have been a great concert just with that. Too good to just play the soundtrack in semi darkness.
The filming was great and would have been a great movie. David Attenborough was just hard to look at;standing there with his creased trousers staring to the front camera. A bit of production would have improved things.

Having seen the Life Story series on TV I was amazed at how much better the experience was with a live symphony orchestra. It made you feel like you were in the scenes, which was wonderful. No matter how familiar the music, played live to such an excellent standard is entertaining & fun. Any chance to see any performance of the proms is highly recommended.
Oh what a treat both the visual imagery of the "Life Show" and the quality of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra I was entralled for the entire performance. Highly recommend.
This was a great event at a venue with amazing acoustics!
The conductor alone was worth the visit. She was so engaged with the orchestra that her whole body was constantly moving to the music. Her enthusiasm was wonderful to watch and the music was very enjoyable especially the electronic interpretation. Great night out also fantastic seats.

Excellent. It surpassed my expectations. I didn't know what the 'Proms' were and the name didn't convey the general appeal of this concert. I would have been very sorry to have missed it.

Stunning performance!
The BBC Proms in Australia concerts were awesome. Having David Attenborough's commentary and videos accompanying the wonderful music played by the Queensland Symphony was stunning. I would see this again and again and would recommend this to lovers of classical music as well as newcomers.
It was an incredible show, I felt privileged being there. I had goose bumps, I had tears, I had laughs... Must see!
Excellent show. The combination of fabulous nature footage and the excellent music of the Queensland symphony orchestra was magnificent. David Attenborough looming on the big screen was a little surreal, but the overall performance was well worth seeing.

I used to play @ Melbourne Symphony Orchestra many years ago as second cello and I must say, I have not enjoyed classical music for many years as I have today, listening and seeing The 'Life Story'.
Concerts like today that force open ones heart and eyes to feel, experience the wonder of life, the animal kingdom and the magic of music. Makes one think, yes, life is REALLY beautiful!
Queensland Symphony Orchestra is, well, sublime. The score was perfect, all in line with the animal world projected on the backdrop of Hamer Hall.

BBC Prom 3 - a first class evening's entertainment.! QSO gave a superb performance. Murray Gold's music was outstanding and accompanied "Life Story" brilliantly.
An outstanding third night where the QSO led by Jeremy Holland-Smith played a fantastic score to accompany a BBC Natural History doco called Life Story which was narrated by Sir David Attenborough. The only snag was that it was hard to watch the musicians at work as the video footage of the animal kingdom in various stages of life was all too compelling.

Really enjoyed listening to the big sound of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, especially the performance of the West Side Story Symphonic Dances. The beat box with orchestra was an interesting and entertaining musical experiment. Would love to hear the QSO again.
This concert had me leaping out of my seat. It was an outstanding event. Feel privileged to have had the experience.

Thoroughly entertaining! The pianist, beatboxer, QSO and conductor, Westside Story and Encore filled Hamer Hall with so much musicality. Not to be missed!
